This week, a teacher from the University of Illinois Extension Office, came to lead a great science activity with the class! Our class learned about renewable and nonrenewable energy and then designed a model for a windmill that could generate actual electricity. Using various materials, the students worked together to build a windmill, and then using a special multi-meter that records electrical output, students were able to see how successful their designs were at generating electricity. From here, students were then able to revisit their designs with their groups to see what they could change or improve to make their model more effective. The students really enjoyed this activity and got excited to test it out!
