This past week, Autumn Creek Elementary hosted a Disability Awareness Day where students had the amazing opportunity to learn about different disabilities in order to bring awareness to them and support for those who have disabilities. From service and therapy dogs, to hearing and vision impairments; autism to learning disabilities, all the students had a rich experience in understanding how special and unique we all are!
To conclude our unit on Ellis Island, the 4th grade participated in an Ellis Island Simulation where students were assigned roles and families of actual immigrants that passed through Ellis Island around the turn of the century. Students went through the different stations and rooms of Ellis Island in this simulation and experienced what it was like for these courageous people. A big thank you to all of the parents and families who helped out in our simulation - you made the experience wonderful and memorable for the students!
